U.S.-Oman Joint Military Commission Held in Muscat
U.S. Delegation Led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Engages with Oman – Strategic Partnership
As published by the U.S. Department of Defense, the United States and Oman held the U.S.-Oman Joint Military Commission (JMC) in Muscat on March 5-6, 2024 said by Department of Defense Spokesman Maj. Pete Nguyen. The U.S. delegation led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East Daniel Shapiro, engaged in discussions with the Oman delegation led by Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Bin Nasser Al–Za’abi. The U.S.-Oman Joint Military Commission serves as a key platform for senior U.S. and Omani officials to discuss ongoing defense collaboration and strengthen the U.S.-Oman defense relationship.

U.S.-Oman Joint Military Commission Highlights Strong Partnership and Regional Security Commitment
During the U.S.-Oman Joint Military Commission (JMC), Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Daniel Shapiro and Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Bin Nasser Al–Za’abi emphasized the robust U.S.-Oman strategic partnership. Discussions included regional security challenges, particularly threats to maritime and border security with a shared commitment to deterring potential threats. The U.S. delegation provided updates on the Israel-Gaza war and U.S.-led security initiatives in the Red Sea. Collaboration focused on enhancing defense cooperation including border security and maritime domain awareness. The importance of joint training, exercises, and regional cooperation to address shared threats was highlighted for a more prosperous, stable, and secure Middle East.
