On August 31, a post on Facebook claimed that the 1913 Death Valley recorded temperature was the highest ever in history, at 135 degrees Fahrenheit. This suggests that the post implies that the 1913 Death Valley temperature is an indication that global warming is not actually happening to date.

Unfortunately, according to Petersen, some Facebook users considered the post as evidence that global warming is indeed not happening. Further reports say the Facebook post was even shared more than 500 times in 2 weeks.

Nonetheless, according to Fertel, several international climate agencies maintain that the Earth’s average temperature has been increasing substantially since the late 1800s. In addition, scientists further state that an isolated case of recording a high temperature decades ago does not disprove the fact that the Earth is warming, the sea levels are rising, the polar and glacial ice is melting, and the heatwave frequency is increasing.

Lastly, experts evaluated the Facebook post stating that the 1913 Death Valley recorded temperature was 134 degrees Fahrenheit and not 135.
