It is considered the most dangerous neighborhood in Atlanta, experiencing a staggering 213% higher crime rate than other parts of the city, with a violent crime rate of 2,500 incidents per 100,000 people.

Property crime is also rampant, at 8,200 instances per 100,000 residents, making Mechanicsville the most dangerous neighborhood in Atlanta in terms of property crime. The neighborhood’s low median household income of $29,711 contributes to these issues, reflecting a prevalence of low-income households and the associated socioeconomic disparities that often lead to higher crime rates.

It is located in Atlanta’s northwest and is currently grappling with significant crime challenges, earning the unfortunate distinction of being the most dangerous neighborhood in Atlanta in 2023. It faces a staggering 151% higher crime rate than other areas in the city.

This neighborhood is home to approximately 6,400 residents, with a predominantly Black population, contributing to its diverse cultural heritage. Unfortunately, Grove Park has become synonymous with violent crime, boasting a rate of 829 violent crimes per 100,000 people, including homicides, robberies, and assaults, making it the most dangerous neighborhood in Atlanta in terms of violent crime.

Moreover, Grove Park has a historical struggle with lower median household incomes, dating back to 2009 when it reported a median income of $31,073, significantly below the citywide median of $49,981.
