Jermell Charlo, the undefeated super welterweight champion, is facing minor charges after he allegedly assaulted a family member. Although the victim’s identity is still unknown, Chyane Westbrook, Charlo’s wife, is said to have requested a temporary restraining order and filed for divorce following the incident. Charlo has already dealt with legal troubles; in 2018, he was accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend, but the accusation was ultimately dropped.

Misdemeanor Assault Charges

The specifics of the most recent assault incident have not yet been made public. Although there is audio circulating on Twitter that purports to show Charlo confessing to significant wrongdoing, the veracity of the source has not been confirmed.

The present charges against Charlo are more complicated due to her legal background, which might have serious legal ramifications.

Beyond his legal issues, Charlo had a turbulent year since in September, he was decisively defeated by Canelo Alvarez. After this defeat, Charlo forfeited his IBF title rather than take on mandatory challenger Bakhram Murtazaliev and lost his WBO title for not challenging Tim Tszyu. In the super welterweight class, Charlo is still the champion of both the WBC and WBA.
