A tragic hospital shooting in Portland, Oregon, left one security guard dead and another hospital staff member wounded.
Hospital Shooting In Portland
The hospital shooting occurred on Saturday morning at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Northwest Portland. The security guard, identified as Bobby Smallwood, was rushed to a trauma center but, unfortunately, succumbed to his gunshot wounds, CBS News reported. The injured hospital staff member is in stable condition.
Thankfully, no patients were wounded during the hospital shooting. In response to the incident, the hospital was immediately locked down, and officers from multiple law enforcement agencies initiated a manhunt to locate the suspect. A nearby Fred Meyer grocery store was also evacuated and searched, but the suspect was not found there.
The suspect was later spotted and stopped by officers during a traffic stop in the city of Gresham, located just east of Portland. During the stop, the officers opened fire on the suspect, resulting in his death at the scene. The suspect’s identity has not been released, and it is not yet confirmed whether he was armed or fired on the police during the encounter.
As of now, the motive behind the hospital shooting remains unknown, and no details have been provided about the circumstances leading up to the tragic event. The shelter-in-place order that was in effect for the hospital during the manhunt has been lifted.
