Virginia Father Indicted for Murder and Concealment of Body

According to court records obtained by WAVY-TV, the Virginia father, Cory Bigsby was formally charged on June 3.

The indictment alleges that the Virginia father killed his 4-year-old son Codi around June 18, 2021, and subsequently took steps to transport, conceal, and alter the child’s body with malicious intent to prevent the detection of an unlawful act or the cause of death, PEOPLE reported.

The case took a tragic turn when it was revealed that the Virginia father Cory Bigsby did not report his son missing until January 31, 2022, approximately seven months after the alleged murder.

The Hampton Police Division received the report and initiated an investigation into the disappearance.

During the investigation, the Virginia father Cory Bigsby claimed that he had last seen his son around 2 a.m. on January 31, 2022, but the child was nowhere to be found.

The police, however, noted discrepancies in the information provided by the Virginia father and the evidence they had gathered regarding when the boy was last seen.

On February 1, the police announced that the case did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert, as there was no indication that the child had been abducted.

Chief Mark Talbot of the Hampton Police Division expressed concerns about the inconsistencies in the stories they had received from the boy’s family.

As the investigation progressed, the Virginia father Cory Bigsby became a person of interest and was subsequently arrested in February 2022 on charges of felony child neglect.

The charges were related to the alleged abuse and neglect of Codi and his three siblings, who had been left alone at home. Additional court records obtained by WAVY-TV indicated that Cory was facing 30 more counts of child abuse and neglect.

Despite extensive search efforts involving federal and local agencies, Codi’s body has not yet been recovered.
