Patricia Ricks is accused of beating her 8-year-old granddaughter to death in North Carolina. The child had severe injuries when taken to a hospital and died upon arrival.
On February 7, shortly after 4 p.m., the Nash County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a child was taken to the Emergency Room at Nash UNC Healthcare in North Carolina. The child reportedly suffered from severe injuries and unfortunately, was declared dead upon arrival at the local hospital.According to Aradillas, the investigations revealed that the victim was an 8-year-old who was beaten by her grandmother. The injuries suffered by the child in her whole body and head were so severe to the extent that they caused her death. The grandmother was identified as Patricia Ricks, 72, who was immediately arrested by the police.
Victim’s Legal Guardian
According to Arias, Ricks was taken to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office where she made no statement. Ricks is now being held at the Nash County Detention Center with no bond. She faced charges of first-degree murder and criminal child abuse with serious injury due to the death of her 8-year-old granddaughter. Ricks’ first court appearance was scheduled last February 9 in Nash County District Court. However, it is not certain whether Ricks has kept an attorney to speak on her behalf.
Ricks was reportedly the legal guardian of the 8-year-old, who died, along with 5 other children living in her home. The 5 surviving children are in the custody of the Nash County Social Services Department now, says Sheriff Keith Stone during a press conference. To date, investigators still do not know any motive Ricks had for the crime.
