Sun Guangxin, a Chinese billionaire, is on the verge of being evicted by Texas ranchers after buying more than 130,000 acres of farmland in the state which triggered fears over national security. Further reports say Sun has extensive relations with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and paid around $110 million for real estate in Texas between 2016 and 2018.

According to Grandhi, Sun also previously had a portfolio in which he had plans of installing a 46-turbine wind farm in a 15,000-acre ranch and dispose of the rest of his expansive real estate in Texas. However, Texas ranchers claimed that the wind farm would provide China access to the state’s electric grid which poses a possible risk to the energy security.

Texas Ranchers Continuously Fight

According to Dilworth, to date, the Texas ranchers still claim that there are ongoing transactions that could allow Sun to retain his interest in the real estate and provide Beijing with access to the state infrastructure.

Further reports say former Central Intelligence Agency officials accused Sun of being an agent of the Chinese state due to his immediate ties with the CCP and its military. In addition, the location of the farmland is only around 30 miles away from a major U.S. Air Force base which could also provide Beijing with opportunities for espionage.
