1. Seaford, Delaware: With a population of 8,145 and a rich history, one of the most dangerous cities in Delaware is Seaford, located on the Nanticoke River in Sussex County. Unfortunately, its crime rate is 177% above the national average. Last year, the city witnessed a total of 530 crimes, including 88 violent incidents and 442 property-related crimes. The chances of being a victim of violent crime in Seaford are 1 in 92, and the likelihood of property crime is 1 in 18.

2. Wilmington, Delaware: As the largest city in the state with a population of 70,100, Wilmington boasts business prominence and cultural attractions. However, its crime rate is 125% above the national average making it one of the most dangerous cities in Delaware. In the past year, Wilmington recorded a total of 3,713 crimes, including 31 murders, 786 aggravated assaults, and 280 robberies. The chances of being a victim of violent crime in Wilmington are 1 in 62, while the probability of property crime is 1 in 27.

3. Laurel, Delaware: Laurel, another one of the most dangerous cities in Delaware once a potato farming community, now has a population of 4,431, with 20% living below the poverty level. The town’s crime rate is 106% above the national average. In the past year, there were a total of 215 crimes in Laurel, including 39 violent incidents and 176 property-related incidents. The chances of falling victim to property crime in Laurel are 1 in 25.

5. Dover, Delaware: As the state capital with a population of nearly 40,000, Dover holds historical and governmental significance. Yet, its crime rate is 108% above the national average making it one of the most dangerous cities in Delaware. In the past year, Dover recorded 329 violent crimes, including 9 murders, 274 aggravated assaults, and 24 robberies. Property crimes totaled 1,549, including 80 car thefts and 1,412 instances of larceny. The chances of being a victim of violent crime in Dover are 1 in 116, and the likelihood of property crime is 1 in 24.
