U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that a U.S. airstrike in eastern Syria killed ISIS leader Usamah al-Muhajir on Friday, CBS News reported.
Deadly Drone Strike Killed ISIS Leader
The deadly drone strike occurred while the drone was being “harassed” by Russian fighter aircraft over western Syria. They are now evaluating reports of civilian injury even though CENTCOM has stated that no civilians were killed in the drone strike.
Lt. Gen. Alex Grynkewich, Commander, 9th AF (AFCENT) and Combined Forces Air Component Commander (CFACC) for CENTCOM, expressed concern about the unprofessional behavior of Russian fighter aircraft. He reported that during the encounter, Russian aircraft flew 18 close passes that endangered the MQ-9 drones, prompting evasive actions to avoid unsafe situations. Grynkewich emphasized the importance of Russia adhering to professional norms to ensure the focus remains on defeating ISIS leaders.
This incident marks the third consecutive day that the U.S. Department of Defense has raised concerns about unsafe and unprofessional behavior by the Russian military. These incidents highlight the need for Russia to abide by established norms and conduct itself as a professional air force.
In a separate operation, U.S. Africa Command conducted three collective self-defense airstrikes against al Shabaab terrorists in a remote area, providing support to the Somali National Army forces. This action demonstrates the ongoing commitment to combating terrorist groups and ensuring the security of the region.

ISIS Leader Death, A Blow to the Group!
The successful airstrike targeting the ISIS leader represents a significant blow to the terrorist organization. Eliminating key leaders like the ISIS leader disrupts their command structure and weakens their ability to carry out attacks. The U.S. military’s continued efforts to combat ISIS leaders and other extremist groups are crucial in maintaining regional stability and protecting innocent civilians.
These recent developments underscore the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. It is essential for all nations involved to adhere to professional norms and work together to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS leaders and ISIS terrorist groups and the promotion of global security.
