A Guaranteed Income pilot program called “Breathe” in Los Angeles, California intends to provide $1,000 worth of monthly payments within two years. The program will reportedly select 200 applicants who have been foster children to qualify for the payments.

An article in MARCA states that the applications for the Guaranteed Income pilot program opened on June 20 and is set to close on July 3 at 11:59 p.m. Individuals who are interested to receive the payments can apply online on Los Angeles County’s website.

Who will qualify for the Guaranteed Income pilot program?

According to Notheis, to be eligible for the Guaranteed Income pilot program, an applicant must at least be 21 years old and must not be at the age of 24 before September 1. Furthermore, an applicant must have been in the care of Los Angeles County’s Department of Children and Family Services upon or after turning 18.

Other requirements for the Guaranteed Income pilot program must be to earn an income at or below 100% of the area median income for a household of one. On the contrary, for households of two or more members, the income must be 120% of the area median income.

Lastly, an applicant must have also been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They must also not be enrolled in another Guaranteed Income pilot program to date.
