The State House recently approved the overhaul proposal for the system of Arkansas Education 2023. Reports say majority of the Republicans voted to approve the proposal.
On March 9, the State House approved a proposal as a massive overhaul of the system of Arkansas Education 2023. The majority of the Republicans voted 78-21 to approve the said proposal. This means that there would be an increase in minimum salaries of teachers and new classroom guidelines about sexual orientation and gender identity.An article on the U.S. News states that the Senate approved an initial version of the overhaul proposal for Arkansas Education 2023 last week. A final vote from them would forward the plan to Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders to sign into law. The proposal would provide access to school vouchers and incorporate an “education freedom account” to pay for home schooling and private school tuition. Reportedly, the amount equals to 90% of Arkansas’ funding for public schools currently at $7,413.

Opposition Against Overhaul Proposal for Arkansas Education 2023
According to Scott, however, opposition argues that the proposal would divert the funds for public schools to the private institutions despite not being required to accept all students. They have also complained about the increase in salaries being attached to the school vouchers and criticized the move to abolish the state-mandated schedule for salaries. The schedule reportedly established ranges of payments depending on the education and years of service. The overhaul would allegedly disservice the veteran teachers.
