Police Shoots Man Who Attacks Them With Knife in Columbia, Missouri

Two police officers shoot at a man who attacked them with a knife in Columbia, Missouri on January 11. Suspect Jordan Pruyn was also accused of assaulting several people at a mobile home park earlier that night.

On January 12, Columbia Police spokesperson Christian Tabak announced in a news conference the details that ensued on the January 11 standoff. According to Tabak, Columbia Police responded to a report about a man that had assaulted several people near the Stonegate Mobile Home Community in Columbia, Missouri. When police arrived at the scene, the suspect Jordan Pruyn, 28, allegedly got rid of his firearm.

According to Fox News, efforts to control the situation were unsuccessful as Pruyn barricaded himself inside one of the mobile homes. For several hours, Pruyn did not communicate with the police officers. However, after a long standoff, Pruyn allegedly rushed at the officers with a knife. In retaliation, two police officers reportedly shot at Pruyn. He was then transferred to a hospital but was declared dead.

Investigations Still Ongoing

According to Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones, one of the police officers has been in the service for 18 years and the other for almost 4 years. The Columbia Police will conduct an internal investigation of the case and the Missouri State Highway Patrol will further investigate the shooting incident, as reported by Fox News.
