Community leaders and residents are relieved and celebrating after learning that Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital’s maternity ward has received $25 million in funding from the state budget. The hospital which serves predominantly Black and brown women is often their only option for healthcare. The funding ensures the hospital can continue to provide vital services, according to the report of ABC 7.
Senator Steven Bradford praised the efforts of elected officials, community members, and hospital staff and saying it’s a relief to know their voices are being heard. He recognized the hospital’s commitment to providing excellent care.

HOSPITAL’S “FAIRY TALE STORY” COMES TRUE
The hospital’s senior director of critical care services highlighted its impressive stats noting it has the second busiest ER in LA County. The hospital has seen a significant increase in patients since opening.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell hailed the news as a “fairy tale story,” praising the hospital’s dedication to serving underserved patients. While officials celebrate this victory and they acknowledge that more work is needed to secure a permanent solution for the hospital’s future.
