According to abc7chicago, Cook County, Illinois, has helped thousands of people by forgiving a big part of their medical debts. This is a big deal because medical bills can be very hard for people to pay off. A group called Undue Medical Debt and Loyola Medicine worked together with Cook County to make this happen.

This is the first time a county has partnered with Undue Medical Debt and a hospital like Loyola Medicine to help people with medical debt. The goal is to help people who are struggling to pay for medical treatment. Cook County wants to make sure its residents have access to good healthcare without worrying about money.
