According to KSL.com, as tax season moves forward the International Revenue Service wants to warn people in the U.S. that there’s more than $1 billion in refunds left over from 2020 taxes. About 940,000 folks still haven’t sent in their tax forms so the International Revenue Service is saying it’s really important for those who could get a refund to do it before May 17. Places like Texas, California, Florida, and New York have the most people who might get refunds.

International Revenue Service Commissioner Urges Swift Action to Claim Unclaimed Tax Refunds

The head of the International Revenue Service Danny Werfel, tells folks to take this chance to get their money back soon. He says they should gather things like their W-2 forms or income records. Normally Americans have three years to get their refunds but because of COVID-19, they have until May 17 this year. If someone doesn’t file their taxes for 2021 and 2022 they might not get their 2020 refund until they do. With millions of tax forms already sent in, the International Revenue Service wants to stress how important it is to act fast and not miss out on their money.
