The neighborhood saw a crime rate of 2,460 per 100,000 residents in 2023 a figure exceeding the national average by 313%. The area’s industrial history has suffered due to a lack of investment contributing to its current socio-economic challenges.

North Central Philly

North Central Philly adjacent to Temple University in northern Philadelphia houses 21,880 residents. Known for its challenging reputation the neighborhood recorded a crime rate of 1,982 per 100,000 Americans last year. Violent crime remains a concern with over 2,000 incidents reported in 2023 although property crime predominates with nearly 6,450 incidents reported in 2022.

Harrowgate

Harrowgate neighboring Alleghany in Northeastern Philadelphia is home to 17,456 residents facing a crime rate of 1,703 per 100,000 Americans. Drug trafficking issues plague the area contributing to violent crime rates that are 326% higher than the national average with 1,738 violent incidents reported in 2023.

Fairhill

As of 2022 Fairhill a neighborhood in northeastern Philadelphia had 1,545 crimes committed against every 100,000 residents. Fairhill has a violent crime rate that is 313% more than the national average with 1,599 violent occurrences reported last year suggesting continued safety issues. The region is notorious for drug activities.

Hunting Park

Hunting Park another neighborhood in North Philadelphia hosts 22,735 residents and experiences a crime rate of 1,452 per 100,000 Americans exceeding the national average by 140%. In 2023 the area reported 1,501 incidents of violent crime including robberies, assaults and gun violence posing ongoing safety concerns for residents.
