London Police Reveal Charges Against 2018 Team Canada Members for Sexual Assault

London Police have taken decisive action by confirming sexual assault charges against five members of the 2018 Team Canada World Junior Team. The accused individuals include Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Michael McLeod, and Cal Foote. This announcement comes after a press conference conducted by the London Police Services, providing significant updates on the case.

The investigation dates back to June 2018, when the alleged incident occurred. Despite an initial investigation that concluded without charges, a comprehensive review was initiated in July 2022 after the alleged victim filed a civil suit, which was settled by Hockey Canada for $3.55 million dollars. The London Police found sufficient evidence during the review to charge the aforementioned individuals with sexual assault, highlighting a significant development in the case.

The charges brought against the accused individuals vary, with McLeod facing two counts of sexual assault – one for his own actions and one for aiding someone else in committing an assault. Dube, Hart, Formenton, and Foote are each charged with one count. Following their release on undertakings, their first court appearances occurred on a Monday morning, marking the next phase of this complex legal process.

The case involves an incident at the Delta London Armouries Hotel, where the offense allegedly took place. While the legal representation for each player has publicly asserted their innocence, court proceedings for the case have been adjourned until April 30. The repercussions of this case will continue to unfold, impacting the accused individuals, the alleged victim, and the broader community.
