As I traveled through the state, I found that not all areas are created equal when it comes to safety. Unfortunately, some parts of Florida have higher-than-average crime rates, making them less appealing to those seeking a safe place to live.
Most Dangerous Cities in Florida
One of the most dangerous cities in Florida is Lake City, with a violent crime rate of 1,547 per 100,000 residents, nearly four times the statewide average. Riviera Beach is another area of concern, with a murder rate seven times the national average. These cities are not isolated incidents, as many other areas in Florida have high crime rates as well.
Florida Cities You Should Avoid
From the coastal city of Daytona Beach to the urban center of Jacksonville, many areas of Florida struggle with property and violent crimes. Cocoa, with its high rate of burglaries and assaults, is another city to avoid if safety is a top concern. Homestead, which was devastated by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, has also seen an increase in crime rates over the years.
