Capital One to Pay $16M for Wrongful Fees; $190M Data Breach Settlement, $2.2M Telecom Payout, and $2,000 E-Bike Incentive Available

Capital One will pay $16 million to settle claims of wrongful fees charged between 2015 and 2022.

Capital One Settles for $16 Million Over Wrongful Fees

Capital One has agreed to pay $16 million to settle claims that it wrongfully charged customers extra fees. These fees were for returned checks and ACH transactions and were applied between September 1, 2015, and January 12, 2022.

Current and former Capital One customers can benefit from this settlement without needing to apply. The bank has notified affected customers about their payment status. Current customers will get their share as a direct deposit while former customers will receive a check.

This isn’t the first large payout for Capital One. In 2023, the bank paid $190 million to settle claims from a data breach in 2019, which affected over 100 million customers in the US and Canada. Some customers reported receiving as much as $707.31, according to the report of The US Sun.
