IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel highlighted the program’s importance noting its growth this year in helping taxpayers file for free.
Despite setbacks like H&R Block and Intuit withdrawing, the program continues to aid taxpayers. Intuit faced legal issues and paid $141 million for allegedly steering low-income customers to paid services.
