The IRS has extended its Free File program until 2029, offering citizens access to certain tax filing software without charges. Participating companies for 2024 include Tax Act, Online Taxes, Tax Hawk, and On-Line Taxes.

IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel highlighted the program’s importance noting its growth this year in helping taxpayers file for free.

Despite setbacks like H&R Block and Intuit withdrawing, the program continues to aid taxpayers. Intuit faced legal issues and paid $141 million for allegedly steering low-income customers to paid services.
