FBI Crime Data Exposes Safety Concerns and Socioeconomic Challenges

A new study looked at which cities in Minnesota are the most dangerous this year. They checked data from the FBI to see where violent and property crimes happen the most. Minnesota is known for its lakes and is rich but some places still have a lot of crime, according to Southwest Journal. Americans living there not only worry about safety but also struggle with not having enough jobs and low wages. This shows that even in a wealthy state some areas need help to make things better for everyone.

Minnesota’s Most Dangerous Cities

1. Bemidji

Bemidji is a location famed for stories of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. In actuality it’s the riskiest city in Minnesota. In 2020 there was a 1 in 13 probability that someone there will fall victim to property crime. It is a dangerous area to be because on average there are more than one aggravated assault every week.

2. Minneapolis

Minneapolis also has its own issues. It is the third most murderous state in the state due to the high number of killings nearly one every week. Because burglaries are a major problem it’s critical that Americans exercise caution and stick together when they’re out and about.

3. West St. Paul

West St. Paul may be small but it’s not immune to crime. It’s got the second highest property crime rate in the state meaning there’s a 1 in 12 chance of someone there being a victim. While violent crimes aren’t as common murders still happen especially in places like St. Clair Park.

4. St. Paul

St. Paul, the twin city to Minneapolis deals with its own crime problems. With a 1 in 133 chance of being a victim of a violent crime it’s something residents need to watch out for. Murders happen about twice a month and there are more car thefts and arsons here compared to Minneapolis.

5. Waite Park

Waite Park may seem nice but it’s got a big crime issue. It’s got the highest property crime rate in Minnesota with lots of car thefts happening every month. It’s small but it’s not a safe place to be.

6. Brainerd

Brainerd is known for its lakes but has a serious crime problem. It’s got a high rate of violent crimes especially rapes. Residents have a 1 in 191 chance of being a victim of a violent crime in a year which is pretty scary.

7. Virginia

In Virginia, crime rates are high. Burglaries are a problem and violent crime casts a shadow over places like Olcott Park after dark. It’s ranked as the fourth most violent place in Minnesota which means Americans need to be cautious.
