Conservative Group Spends $15 Million on Ad Targeting Senator Jon Tester’s Immigration Policies
Conservative Group Launches $15 Million Ad Blitz Against Senator Tester Ahead of Immigration-Linked Impeachment Trial
An ad attacking Senator Jon Tester, a Democrat from Montana, for his immigration policies was produced by a conservative organization connected to Senate GOP leaders for more than $15 million. The One Nation-produced ad accuses Tester of having backed money for sanctuary cities and letting President Biden halt construction of the border wall in response to his previous remarks on amnesty, the border wall, and sanctuary cities. It began broadcasting just before Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s Senate impeachment trial, which is scheduled for April 11 in response to the House’s impeachment of Mayorkas over his handling of illegal immigration at the southern border.
Senate Prepares for Immigration-Linked Impeachment Trial Amidst Debate Over Trial Format
Although the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer may call for a vote on motions to dismiss or table the accusations rather than a full trial, the House decided earlier this year to impeach Mayorkas. House Speaker Mike Johnson claimed to have specific evidence, although Schumer’s staff alluded to similar moves, according to The Hill. The date of the advertisement highlights the current discussion regarding immigration laws as well as the divisive nature of the decisions and acts of important public personalities.
