Walmart Settles Lawsuit Over Alleged Overcharging, Offers Refunds to Eligible Shoppers

Walmart has consented to resolve a lawsuit alleging that it overcharged for some commodities sold by weight by paying $45 million. These products include some varieties of bagged fruit and packed meat. Walmart chose to settle the lawsuit in order to facilitate matters even though they maintain that they done nothing improper. Purchases made at Walmart locations in the United States or Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024 are covered by the settlement.

Should you have made purchases at Walmart throughout that period, you may be eligible for a refund. You can apply for compensation by mail or online until June 5. You may get up to $500 (2% of the amount you spent on qualified items) if you saved your receipts. You might still be able to receive some money back even without receipts, albeit it won’t be as much. If you buy up to 50 pounds of eligible goods without a receipt, you can receive $10. The amount increases with larger purchases, but it can only be used toward purchases exceeding 100 pounds.
