Lincare Holdings, a medical device company, is paying $7.25 million in a settlement after a data breach in 2021.

Patients sued Lincare Holdings in a class-action lawsuit, claiming the company could have prevented the hack.

Claimants of the settlement money from Lincare Holdings can receive up to $5,090 and must provide proof of certain expenses.

The deadline to file a claim for the money from Lincare Holdings is April 15, 2024.

Lincare Holdings did not admit any wrongdoing. Lincare Holdings’ settlement administrator can be reached by mail or online.

According to a published article by SmartNews, aside from Lincare Holdings, other medical companies, such as Wright & Filipps and Norwood Clinic, are also paying out settlements for data breaches.

Refunds For Wrongful Payments

In a published article by The Spokesman-Review, Lincare Holdings settled a $29 million fraud case related to overbilling Medicare, the largest-ever settlement in the Eastern District of Washington.

Lincare Holdings agreed to refund wrongful payments, take corrective actions, and prevent future fraudulent billing.

Lincare Holdings was accused of putting profits before patient care and wrongfully collecting co-pays from elderly beneficiaries.

Lincare Holdings provides oxygen equipment in 49 states and is required to continue providing equipment to Medicare beneficiaries without reimbursement after three years.

The majority of affected individuals were Medicare Advantage members.
