As reported by Axios, former President Donald Trump and former governor Nikki Haley have called Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) to solicit his endorsement ahead of the New Hampshire primary.

The Strategic Dance for Endorsement

Scott’s support might change the Republican primary contest. Scott’s endorsement might be a game-changer for Haley, who finished third in Iowa, given her prior links to the senator, whom she appointed to the Senate in 2013.

Trump called just after the Iowa caucuses when he won by 30 points. Wednesday’s call by Haley was a determined effort to create momentum before Tuesday’s New Hampshire vote.

Sources say Scott and Haley have been texting but not calling. Interestingly, Trump backer Senator Lindsey Graham has privately asked Scott to back Trump, underlining the gravity of the choice. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who contacted Scott following his presidential withdrawal, has not called this week.

The Weight of Scott’s Decision

Despite being appointed by Haley, Scott is still considering his choices. Scott’s support might affect the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries on Feb. 24.

After Iowa, the Republican field rallies behind Trump, making endorsements vital. Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Elise Stefanik have supported Trump, demonstrating the party’s unity. Haley hopes a good New Hampshire showing would boost her campaign before the crucial South Carolina election.

As the New Hampshire primary approaches, the political environment is changing as the fight for powerful backing intensifies. Scott’s endorsement might alter everything.
