Americans Urged to Review Mail: ‘Expired’ $1,300 Checks Reissued in Plain White Envelopes – Caution Advised against Discarding

Reissued $1,300 one-time rebate checks should arrive in a plain white envelope in nearly 150,000 mailboxes. The Minnesota Department of Revenue initiated the re-issuance after the initial checks expired due to residents failing to cash them within the required 60-day period from their August and September issuance dates.

Submittable Holdings Issues Reissued Checks: Important Details for Residents

Two batches of reissued checks from Missoula-based Submittable Holdings will be distributed in November and early December. In September 2023, paper checks enclosed in plain white envelopes raised concerns about their appearance. Residents should be vigilant.

The checks are signed by Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart and expire 60 days after issuance. The state recommends cashing these checks quickly to avoid issues.

The state will work with eligible taxpayers who haven’t gotten their reissued checks, but it won’t offer rebates for valid but uncashed checks. This precaution prevents duplicate payments and streamlines rebates.

Minnesota and Alaska Cash Rebates: Eligibility, Distribution, and Unclaimed Funds

Unclaimed rebate cheques go to the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s Unclaimed Property Division. Individuals and married couples earning up to $75,000 and $150,000 can receive rebates. Approximately 2.1 million Minnesotans match the eligibility condition.

Taxpayers who submit their taxes online should expect to get their rebates via direct deposit, as the state already has their banking information. Those who didn’t file online will receive paper cheques by mail. The rebate amounts vary depending on income and tax deductions, with some individuals reporting checks of up to $1,300.

Alaska also gives cash rebates, with most taxpayers eligible for $1,312 under the Permanent Fund Dividend. These annual direct payments are based on the state’s oil and mineral wealth. While the 2024 checks for Alaska won’t be deposited until October, applications are open until March 31. Additionally, some 2023 checks for eligible recipients who were not paid by January 10 will be issued on January 18, 2024.
