A missing Chinese exchange student was found safe after a “ransom” plot.

A Utah Chinese exchange student reported missing last week was located Monday. A “cyber kidnapping” scam cost his family $80,000.

Five days before his Friday disappearance, the 17-year-old was last seen at his Riverdale, Utah, home 30 miles outside Salt Lake City.

Riverdale police initially believed the student was hostage. Friday night, he was found safe in a tent in Brigham City, 25 miles from Riverdale. Police believe the youngster isolated himself since his family was in China and was threatened.
