Wildfires in Washington State Left 1 Dead, Thousands Under Evacuation, Hundreds of Buildings Burned

Latest news updates on the wildfires in Washington reported 1 individual dead and thousands under mandatory evacuation. Further reports say more than 185 buildings and thousands of acres were burned down due to the wildfires.

The Department of Natural Resources stated that the wildfires in Washington sparked around noon on August 18. As of August 19, one of the wildfires in Washington, the so-called Gray Fire, reportedly burned more than 185 buildings and over 9,500 acres near the county of Spokane.

According to Santucci, officials in Spokane announced a state of emergency and Level 3 evacuations were issued for the city of Medical Lake where around 4,800 residents live. To date, at least 1 individual was killed and thousands were placed under mandatory evacuation due to the wildfires in Washington.

Other Wildfires in Washington

According to Smith, the Oregon Road Fire, another one of the wildfires in Washington burned down around 30 buildings and 3,000 acres near the community of Elk. Residents near the communities of Cheney and Four Lakes were also ordered to evacuate, including the students and staff of Eastern Washington University.

On August 18, Commissioner Hilary Franz of the Department of Natural Resources Public Lands announced that many other communities across the state were also impacted by the wildfires in Washington.
