Eric Abril; Murder Suspect Captured After Escaping Hospital In California

After a day-long manhunt, the murder suspect who had escaped from a California hospital has been captured by authorities. Eric Abril, the 35-year-old accused of shooting a California Highway Patrol officer and two hostages in April, was detained on Monday following an extensive search.

Fox News reported that Eric Abril had managed to escape from Sutter Roseville Medical Center early Sunday morning while under custody. The circumstances surrounding his presence at the hospital have not been disclosed by authorities. However, he was facing charges of murder, aggravated kidnapping, and attempted murder of a peace officer and was being held without bail.

The capture of Eric Abril was announced by Placer County Sheriff’s Office. They shared a photo of Eric Abril sitting on the ground and handcuffed. He was located hiding in a green belt on Zion Court at Bryce Way in Rocklin. Despite still wearing belly chains and jail boxers, he was successfully taken into custody.

Law enforcement agencies involved in the manhunt expressed their gratitude for the collaboration that led to Eric Abril’s recapture. The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service, along with helicopters, police dogs, drones, and armored vehicles, all played a role in locating the suspect.

The incident that initially led to Eric Abril’s arrest occurred in April when highway patrollers attempted to serve him a warrant at a Roseville park. Eric Abril opened fire on the officers, injuring one, and then took two individuals hostage. Tragically, he shot both hostages, resulting in the death of one while the other survived.

Eric Abril’s Escape From the Hospital

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Eric Abril’s escape from the hospital.
