Texas Gunman Allegedly Kills Five Neighbors

According to police reports, the incident unfolded on April 28 when Texas gunman Francisco Oropeza, 38-year-old, allegedly stormed into his neighbor’s house in response to their request to cease firing his AR-style rifle, as it was disturbing a sleeping baby.

The shooting occurred in the rural town of Cleveland, located approximately 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of Houston.

The accused Texas gunman, a Mexican national with a history of multiple deportations, had already been charged with five counts of murder in May, U.S. News reported.

Following the incident, Texas gunman Oropeza fled the neighborhood, triggering an extensive manhunt involving over 250 officers, drones, scent-tracking dogs, and a reward of $80,000.

Despite the intensive search efforts, Texas gunman Oropeza managed to evade capture for several days. Ultimately, he was apprehended near Conroe, around 20 miles (32 kilometers) from the scene of the crime.

All five victims, who tragically lost their lives, were from Honduras. Among them was a 9-year-old boy, adding to the heartbreaking nature of the crime. Furthermore, a neighbor living down the street revealed that Texas gunman Oropeza had previously threatened to kill his dog after it chased Oropeza’s pit bull.

Will Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty for the Texas Gunman?

The indictment of the Texas gunman paves the way for prosecutors to pursue the death penalty in this case.

Texas gunman Oropeza’s domestic partner and one of his friends have also been charged with hindering the apprehension or prosecution of a known felon.

However, with the new capital murder charge, the severity of the allegations against the Texas gunman has escalated significantly. It now falls upon the prosecutors to determine whether they will seek the death penalty.

San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon stated that it is still too early to make a decision regarding seeking the death penalty in the Texas gunman’s case.

The court appearance for Texas gunman Oropeza is scheduled for August when he will have the opportunity to enter a plea. His attorney, Anthony Osso, has confirmed that Oropeza will plead not guilty.
