Reports say the Guaranteed Income Pilot program in Michigan had been approved by the City Council of Ann Arbor. The program was made possible due to the $1.6 million in funds allocated by the American Rescue Plan Act that was signed into law by U.S. President Joe Biden in 2021.According to Russo, to establish the Guaranteed Income Pilot program, the city of Ann Arbor collaborated with the University of Michigan. Christopher Taylor, the city’s mayor, stated that by collaborating with the university, the residents of Ann Arbor will be able to increase their understanding of the effectiveness of the program.

Who will qualify for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program?
According to Walker, the Guaranteed Income Pilot program will provide 100 residents of the city of Ann Arbor with monthly payments worth $500. Nonetheless, to be able to qualify, an individual must earn an income less than 300% of the federal poverty level.
In addition, to be able to qualify for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program, an individual must be an entrepreneur who earns only low to moderate incomes. This means that an individual must engage in entrepreneurship like gig work, services provided to friends or neighbors, or informal businesses from their homes.
Furthermore, eligible residents who receive public benefits such as housing assistance and free lunch meals will be given priority for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program. To date, however, it is still not certain when the first batch of monthly payments will be distributed.
