President Joe Biden has settled with Republicans, in a request to prevent a default and economic disaster with a strict work requirement, HuffPost.com reported.

Strict Work Requirements
The White House and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have negotiated this deal. This deal is seen as a step to raise the debt limit for the next 2 years.
President Joe Biden stated that the agreement represents a compromise where not all will get what they want. But, on the other hand, the President also emphasizes that the agreement is good news to Americans.
The settlement will prevent a disastrous default that will lead to severe economic problems such as millions of job losses, loss of retirement accounts, and a recession.
Under the tentative agreement, non-defense spending will remain flat for 2024, with limits imposed for 2025. This is considered a significant win for Republican leaders, as defense spending will continue to rise while other progressive priorities such as healthcare research and education will face effective cuts.
One notable omission from the deal is the controversial “work requirement” proposal that would have denied Medicaid healthcare coverage to unemployed adults without dependents.
However, the agreement includes a version of the Republican proposal to tighten the work requirement in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides food benefits to millions of households.

While the deal gives in to some Republican demands, it also includes modifications to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF), commonly known as “welfare.” The impact of these changes on affected families is yet to be determined.
