Illinois Lawmakers On State Budget

The government’s office had released news to reporters that a mid $50 billion budget was agreed upon by Illinois lawmakers. But it did not disclose the exact amount.

It was part of the budget proposal of Governor Pritzker in February, amounting to $49.6 billion.

Gov. Pritzker confidently said that he has balanced the budget for the fifth time. He also said that he vows to work with the General Assembly and restore compassion in the state government to build a strong future and strong economy.

Furthermore, he also emphasized that he wants a historic investment for the state to benefit especially in the development of the workforce, filling teacher vacancies, K-12 funding, higher education, and violence prevention.

The news release said that the budget will also make transformative investments in mental health services and public safety.

This move has proved that Democrats can produce a state budget that is both compassionate and fiscally responsible, House Speaker Emanuel Welch said.

The budget will still face adjustments as it goes through the Senate and the House.

On the other hand, Republicans have no immediate reaction to the agreed budget.
