Reports say Mad magazine cartoonist Al Jaffee has died at the age of 102. Jaffee had entertained millions of children with the Fold-In feature and the “Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions” segment of the magazine.
On April 10, Al Jaffee, the award-winning Mad magazine cartoonist, died in Manhattan due to multiple organ failure according to Fani Thomson, his granddaughter. Jaffee, with his Fold-In feature and “Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions” segment in the magazine, had entertained millions of children. However, at the age of 99, the Mad magazine cartoonist decided to retire.According to Italie, the Mad magazine cartoonist draws satirical caricatures of politics and culture that are essential for preteens and teens during the Baby Boomers era. Jaffee reportedly issued new material every issue for decades. The Fold-In feature can be found and collected from the inside back cover of every Mad magazine since 1964. Furthermore, Jaffee was also known for the “Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions” segment of the magazine.

Inspired by the Mad Magazine Cartoonist
According to Genzlinger, the Mad magazine cartoonist’s Fold-In feature was intended to be a one-time gag in 1964. However, the concept became so popular that Mad magazine editor Al Feldstein decided for more. Jaffee’s enthusiasts ranged from “Far Side” creator Gary Larson and “Peanuts” creator Charles M. Schulz to American comedians Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. During Jaffee’s 85th birthday, Colbert and Stewart featured a Fold-In cake on “The Colbert Report”, an American news satire TV program.
