Transgender Day of Visibility Marks Biden’s Proclamation To Pass Equality Act for LGBT+

U.S. President Joe Biden urged to establish policies that will allow federal employees to transition to another gender. The Transgender Day of Visibility marks Biden’s proclamation to pass the Equality Act for LBTQ+ individuals.

On March 31, the International Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated. This day also marked how the U.S. President Joe Biden has urged federal agencies to establish policies that will allow their employees to transition to another gender. In addition, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) also issued an updated guideline on gender identity and inclusion which was last updated in 2017.

According to Kelley, the old guidelines urged federal agencies to treat transgenders with sensitivity and discretion and provided other general guidelines on how to handle the changes. On the contrary, the new guidelines updated during the Transgender Day of Visibility urge the agencies to establish internal policies and methods on how to handle the changes and to provide constant support with extensive goals.

Policies Established on Transgender Day of Visibility

According to Kasperowicz, the federal agency policies must expound the kind of support a transgender employee can expect to receive from support services, human resource personnel, managers, supervisors, and more. The agencies must also lay out a procedure wherein the transitions will be considered in the workplace. Lastly, the agencies must make their policies accessible to everyone by allowing sick leave for transitioning employees during their medical treatments.
