AT&T, a telecommunications company, is compensating its customers with $60 million in settlement for their misleading unlimited data plans. However, the Federal Trade Commission says that $7 million of the settlement is still not claimed.
In 2014, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against the AT&T telecommunications company due to its alleged misleading data plans. AT&T has reportedly minimized the data speed of roughly 3.5 million of its customers after reaching a specific amount of data. The customers said that even basic web browsing and video streaming could no longer be accessed because of the low data speed.According to Kenney, by 2019, the FTC has required the AT&T to pay a $60 million in settlement for the lawsuit filed against them. The AT&T has disputed the accusations against them but has decided to settle to end the tedious litigation process. Past customers who are still active to date were offered with a bill credit. On the other hand, inactive customers were offered with rebate checks. To date, $7 million in settlement still needs to be claimed.

Who is eligible for the settlement?
According to Blake, to be eligible for the settlement, one must be a past customer of AT&T. The customer must also have applied for the unlimited data plan between October 1, 2011 through June 30, 2015. Most importantly, the customer must have experienced a low data speed. Lastly, customers must have not been given any compensation by the AT&T yet.
Customers can submit a claim through the FTC online. They can also approach an administrator by calling 1-877-654-1982 or sending an email to [email protected]. However, the deadline to submit claims is only until May 18. Originally, customers have been given refunds of $10 to $23 depending on the state where they live in. For now, the exact amount that will be given is based on how many customers will submit a claim.
