The last chance to claim up to $1,050 relief payments in California is coming up very soon. The payments have started being released on October 7 last year and will continue only until January 15.

In June 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a $308 billion state budget into law. This program was called the Middle Class Tax Refund (MCTR) and are one-time payments only. This program is intended to issue tax refunds to 23 million residents of California as they struggle against the rising inflation. In 2023, inflation has reportedly increased by 8.3%. Fortunately, eligible residents have received relief payments of up to $1,050 starting on October 7 last year. These payments have continued in 2023 but will be only until January 15. By the end of 2022, it was expected that 95% of all the payments have already been issued, as reported by Koterbski.

How much has been received?

According to Koterbski, not all recipients received the same amount of relief payments. Reportedly, the amount differs based on an applicant’s status of tax filing and income. For single filers, those who earned up to $75,000 have received $350. Those who earned between $75,001 and $125,000 have received $250 and those who earned between $125,001 and $250,000 have received $200. For joint or married filers, those who earned up to $150,000 have received $700. Those who earned between $150,001 and $250,000 have received $500 and those who earned between $250,001 and $500,000 have received $400. For heads of households or widowers, those who earned up to $150,000 have received $350. Those who earned between $150,001 and $250,000 have received $250 and those who earned between $250,001 and $500,000 have received $200. 

Filers who earn a low income will also receive an additional payment of $350 for a dependent. Those who earn an average income will receive $250 and those who earn a high income will receive $200 for a dependent. Unfortunately, filers who earn more than the income limits will not receive any payment.
