A new report has ranked the best and worst states to live in, and while Texas isn’t exactly sitting at the top, New Mexico’s position has raised some eyebrows. So, the big question is: Is New Mexico really the worst place to live?
The rankings were based on factors like homeownership, housing costs, crime rates, education, and more. Massachusetts claimed the number one spot, and Texas came in at a modest 37th place with a score of 34.
But New Mexico? Well, it landed at a rather dismal 50th place, scoring just 26 points overall—yikes! While the state did earn a decent score in the economy category (25th), its overall quality of life ranked at 31st. But that’s just the beginning of the not-so-great news.
In education and health, New Mexico was almost at rock bottom, ranking 47th. When it comes to safety, the state didn’t fare any better, with the highest crime rate in the nation—50th place. And in terms of poverty, New Mexico took home the 48th spot.
So, if you’re dreaming of the perfect place to live, Massachusetts may be your answer, according to this survey. But do I agree with it? Not really. As someone who loves a good road trip to Las Cruces or Albuquerque, I’m definitely biased!
