According to Aerotime, Senior Lieutenant Gavrichenko, affiliated with the Russian Guard aviation squadron, surrendered himself to US officials at the Dubai embassy in September 2023.

The motives of the Russian military pilot for defection remain uncertain; it is unclear whether he had premeditated this move or decided on impulse during his Dubai vacation. Spy Dossier, a Telegram channel, suggests that he may have been influenced by a friend now residing in the United States, sparking speculation about external involvement.

Former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs in Ukraine, Anton Gerashchenko, shared the news on social media while the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) is currently looking into the incident. As part of the ongoing investigation, they’re questioning the Russian military pilot’s colleagues and going through their personal items, like phones.
