Over 100 Missiles Rain Down on Houthi Military Assets in Yemen in Response to Red Sea Attacks

An enormous strike was launched by the United States and the United Kingdom against Houthi militants in Yemen, representing a significant display of military retaliation. This reaction ensued after the Houthis launched persistent drone and missile assaults against military and civilian vessels in the Red Sea for more than two months. In retaliation, more than a hundred Tomahawk cruise missiles and precision-guided explosives were utilized to strike Houthi military assets, with sixty targets falling across sixteen distinct locations in Yemen.

The Houthis’ series of attacks in the Red Sea had specifically targeted supposedly Israel-linked shipping and escorting warships in response to Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Despite the Houthis’ control over western Yemen and their declaration of open season on Red Sea shipping, none of their 27 attacks managed to hit U.S. or allied warships, although several civilian ships were struck without causing any deaths or losses.

The U.S. Navy, supported by the British military, successfully defended against Houthi ballistic missile attacks, as revealed by recent events in the Red Sea. Notably, U.S. warships, including the Ohio-class cruise missile submarine Florida, and aircraft such as the F/A-18 Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler jets, played a crucial role in intercepting the Houthi missiles.
