U.S. Congress Advances TikTok Ban Amidst Rising Tensions with China
TikTok Ban Bill Reflects Deepening Hostility Towards China, Fails to Address Core Social Media Concerns
According to the report of Responsible Statecraft, in a big step the U.S. Congress is quickly pushing forward a law called the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. This law aims to ban TikTok a popular app owned by a Chinese company. Instead, they think it makes tensions between the U.S. and China worse. This law lets the government stop companies from countries it sees as enemies which some say shows a growing problem of fear and dislike of China.
