Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Monday night an immediate special session just hours after lawmakers completed the year’s regular legislative session without passing numerous key bills state leaders had identified as priorities.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott Calls An Immediate Special Session
After the 88th Texas Legislature had adjourned for the regular session without passing some of the governor’s key bills, Abbott announced Monday night to have an immediate special session to discuss an important two big agenda in addressing property taxes and border security.
Moreover, Abbott said he would be signing several laws that came out of the regular session. He said that there are critical items remaining that must be passed. Several special sessions will be required. To ensure that each priority will receive the designated, attention it deserves to pass into law and only an occasional will be added each session.

Here Are The List That Governor Abbott Will Be Signing Soon Into Law
Governor Abbott said that he will shortly be signing rules that advance Texas and the future of all Texans, including laws that:
- End COVID restrictions and mandates
- Provide more additional $5.1 billion to guarantee the border and fund the Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the border wall
- Designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations
- Prosecute fentanyl deaths as murder
- Protect women’s sports and female collegiate athletes
- Focus community colleges on qualifying Texas students for high-skill careers
- Increase electric power generation to ensure the Texas power grid
- Hold rogue district attorneys accountable
- Protect children from life-altering gender mutilation
- Prohibit illegal DEI hiring practices in our colleges and universities
- Add $1.4 billion to make Texas schools safer
- Require armed security at all schools establishment
- Provide access to mental healthcare for students at all schools
- Require frequent safety inspections of school buildings
Abbott claims that Special Session Number 1 will focus only on cutting property taxes and breaking down illegal human smuggling.
