Colorado state Rep. Mike Lynch, a congressional contender, was in the spotlight after his 2022 arrest for drunken driving and gun possession. The Denver Post reported the event on Wednesday. Lynch, the Colorado Republican minority leader, is running for the hotly contested U.S. House seat vacated by Republican Rep. Ken Buck.

According to The Denver Post, his 2022 arrest made headlines. Lynch’s plea of guilty to DUI resulted in an 18-month probation, supervised sobriety, handgun safety training, and a gun ban. After the incident, he said, “I just made a mistake, and you don’t learn from success, you learn from failure,” and promised to stay sober. At 90 mph on an expressway north of Fort Collins, Colorado, Trooper Matthew King stopped the candidate for alcohol. His BAC was over twice the state’s 0.08%.

The politician said, “I believe that people understand that nobody’s perfect.” Lynch’s arrest could affect elections. Mike Lynch aims to recover from his primary loss in a competitive U.S. House race. Lynch said, despite the incident, “I’m sober today and will stay so. It’s mine, and thankfully nobody was wounded.” Lynch is running for the U.S. House, promising to learn from his mistakes.
