The Israeli army neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the assassination of Saleh al-Arouri, despite Hamas and regional security officials attributing the strike to an Israeli drone.

The Mossad chief, David Barnea, declared an aggressive pursuit of every individual associated with the attack on Israel in October, drawing a parallel to the agency’s response to the 1972 Munich massacre. Barnea emphasized that Mossad would track down all those involved, directly or indirectly, in the assault that resulted in numerous casualties and hostages in southern Israel.

Furthermore, Hezbollah, also backed by Iran and designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, has been launching rockets across Israel’s northern border amid the Israel-Hamas conflict. Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, issued a televised warning to Israel, vowing unrestrained and unrestricted retaliation should Lebanon be attacked. The deceased, Saleh al-Arouri, held a prominent position in Hamas’ politburo and was a founding member of its military wing, the Qassam Brigades, responsible for the October assault on Israeli territory.
