The PACT Act benefits are available for veterans of all eras who have been exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances, Audacy.com reported.
What’s the Purpose Of PACT Act Benefits?
To raise awareness and encourage veterans to apply for these benefits, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is organizing a Summer VetFest across the country.
The Summer VetFest events will be held in all 50 states, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico. These casual gatherings will bring together veterans, their families, veteran advocates, and VA health care and benefits professionals. VA staff will be present to assist veterans in applying for PACT Act-related benefits or submitting an intent to file, enrolling in VA health care, and getting screened for toxic exposures.
VA Secretary Denis McDonough emphasizes the importance of ensuring that all eligible veterans and survivors receive the health care and benefits they deserve. With over $1.4 billion already delivered in PACT Act benefits and more than 660,000 veterans have applied for these benefits, VA is committed to reaching out to veterans across America.
Since the enactment of the PACT Act, VA has organized numerous events and initiatives to support veterans. This includes the PACT Act Week of Action held in December, which saw over 120 events take place nationwide.
Who Can Apply For PACT Act Benefits?
Veterans and survivors can apply for PACT Act benefits or find more information by visiting the VA website or calling 1-800-MYVA411. Attending one of the Summer VetFest events this month is another opportunity for veterans to learn about the program and receive assistance with their applications.
While there is no specific deadline for applying for PACT Act benefits, veterans who submit their applications or intent to file by August 9 may have their benefits backdated to August 10, 2022, when President Joe Biden signed the legislation into law. The Summer VetFest serves as an important platform to ensure veterans are aware of the benefits available to them and to provide them with the support they need.
