$130 Million Budget For SNAP Benefits 2023 Increase in Massachusetts

The U.S. federal government had unfortunately discontinued the distribution of SNAP emergency allotments last February. However, the state of Massachusetts decided to provide an increase in SNAP Benefits 2023 for its own residents.

In February, the U.S. federal government announced the discontinuation of emergency allotments for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) across the country. Fortunately, the state of Massachusetts had decided to provide an increase in SNAP benefits 2023 for its own residents.

According to DiGiammerino, around 630,000 families in Massachusetts have previously received the emergency allotments from the federal government. These allotments are intended for financial assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, these allotments were worth an additional $151 on top of the $335 regular payments received by the residents every month. However, these SNAP benefits 2023 have unfortunately ended before the month of March arrived.

SNAP Benefits 2023 Increase in Massachusetts

According to Lisinski, fortunately, Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts had decided to approve an additional budget of $130 million for SNAP benefits 2023. This budget is reportedly funded by the state government and was expected to begin last April 7.

Reports say these additional payments for the SNAP benefits 2023 are expected to be available in the months of April, May, and June. The payments will increase up to 40% of a household’s regular monthly benefit and its maximum amount for its size. Furthermore, the eligibility of the recipients will be determined from the preceding month. For medical costs, housing costs, and child or disabled adult care costs, the residents of Massachusetts may also report to have their SNAP benefits increased.
