On February 13, Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders formally reintroduced the Social Security Expansion Act to Congress for the Social Security check 2023. The Social Security Expansion Act was initially introduced on June 9 by Sanders and U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio.

According to Fragassi, the Social Security Expansion Act has remained dormant until Sanders and supporters Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representatives Jan Schakowsky and Val Hoyle cosigned the reintroduction. Additional Benefits in Social Security Check 2023

An article on the Business Insider states that under the Social Security Expansion Act, any Social Security beneficiary who is currently receiving payments and will turn 62 in 2023 is eligible. These beneficiaries are eligible for the additional $200 per month in the Social Security check 2023. This means that the eligible Social Security beneficiaries can receive an additional $2,400 a year in the Social Security check 2023 if the bill would get approved.

The latest outline of the bill also offers an improvement for the severely deficient Social Security program. This bill intends to ensure that beneficiaries from the future generations can receive benefits even until 2096. Sanders states in a press release that this initiative will be made possible by taxing the highest earners in the U.S. 93% of the American households that earn less than $250,000 will not experience an increase in their taxes.
