On February 9, the City Council of Fayetteville has decided to add $1.5 million to a child care assistance program in Arkansas. This money brings the total allocation for the program to $2 million. Initially, the proposal made by Mayor Lioneld Jordan was to add only $1 million to the program. However, a member of the Council, Holly Hertzberg, suggested to add another $500,000. Fortunately, fellow council members unanimously supported the modification.According to Gill, the City of Fayetteville began to accept applications in December 2022. This is for residents to be able to receive a one-year worth of financial assistance for child care. Reportedly, Fayetteville has already distributed applications to 298 residents since the program began. To date, 70 applications are already in the process of approval. In estimation, these applications total to an estimated cost of $840,000 for 90 children. In addition, 17 applications are also pending for approval.
