The initiative, which began in January 2024, aims to assist families struggling with rising living costs due to global inflation and stagnant wages. By offering this substantial financial aid the program hopes to ease the financial burden on young parents and pregnant women in Flint.

To qualify for the Rx Kids program Flint residents must meet certain criteria. Applicants need to prove they live in Flint and are at least 20 weeks pregnant. The application process is designed to be simple and accessible. Residents can apply either online through the Rx Kids website or in person. This ease of access is intended to ensure that eligible families can quickly receive the help they need. The program’s focus is on providing immediate financial relief and supporting families as they manage economic challenges.

Rx Kids Scheme Administered by GiveDirectly and Local Universities

The Rx Kids scheme is managed by GiveDirectly in partnership with Michigan State University the University of Michigan, and the Greater Flint Health Coalition. These organizations are working together to provide crucial support to Flint’s families. By making the application process straightforward and offering significant financial assistance the program aims to help families cope with high living costs and improve their overall well-being.
